WETA's ongoing commitment to education is realized through national education services that focus on making learning available to all. Through local and national television programs and web sites, WETA uses the power of media to educate, entertain, inspire, and delight.
In particular, WETA's Learning Media department offers the following national web services: Reading Rockets, a national multimedia project that offers research-based and best-practice information on teaching kids to read and helping those who struggle; LD OnLine, the leading web site on learning disabilities for parents, teachers, and other professionals; Colorín Colorado, a web service that offers information, activities, and advice for Spanish-speaking parents and educators of English language learners; and BrainLine.org, a site with information and resources for preventing, treating, and living with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
Internships are offered throughout the year to coincide with the typical academic calendar. Internships range from 15-40 hours per week, depending upon the needs of the intern and their assigned department. The approximate timeline is as follows:
- Spring Session (January - April)
- Application deadline: November 15th
- Summer Session (May - August)
- Application deadline: March 1st
- Fall Session (September - December)
- Application deadline: July 1st
Learning Media Intern (Web Team)
Web interns in WETA’s Learning Media department will have the opportunity to contribute to six vibrant educational multimedia web services – AdLit.org, BrainLine.org, BrainLineMilitary.org, ColorinColorado.org, LDOnline.org, and ReadingRockets.org – They will assist in updating front end website content using HTML, CSS and some JavaScript, updating web page design, and creating graphic files using Photoshop and Flash. Qualifications include:
- Preferred major in Computer Science, Web Development, or Digital Media
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Photoshop, Basic HTML, Flash, content management systems, graphic design experience
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software package
- Writing / proofreading skills
- Attention to detail and quality
- Preferred:experience and familiarity with Drupal
- Desired but not required: Knowledge of Avid and Final Cut Pro

Learning Media Intern (Video Team)
Interns in WETA’s Learning Media department will have the opportunity to contribute to six vibrant educational multimedia web services – AdLit.org, BrainLine.org, BrainLineMilitary.org, ColorinColorado.org, LDOnline.org, and ReadingRockets.org – while acquiring behind-the-scenes knowledge of video and audio production. Will assist in updating site content, digitize, tag, and upload audio & video, distribute content, promote new content through online marketing, and assist in creating graphic files using Photoshop and Flash. Qualifications include:
- Preferred major in Education, Web Development, or Digital Media
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Familiarity and experience with online social networking and video sites
- Experience with Photoshop, HTML, Flash, content management systems, and blogging applications
- Desired but not required: experience with Final Cut Pro, AVID, shared task tools such as Highrise, and/or online marketing

Intern, LD OnLine
LD OnLine is the leading web site on learning disabilities for parents, teachers, and other professionals. We are seeking a capable intern who has a friendly spirit and does careful work. We can provide HTML training and exposure to a fast-paced innovative web environment. The site needs a lot of work in terms of editorial production. Responsibilities include:
- Reviewing articles and organizing them into categories
- Making recommendations as to which articles will go on the web
- Copy editing material for punctuation and grammar
- Update HTML code on pages. Standard tags will be given
- Implement stylesheet and troubleshoot pages to make sure they all display properly
- Clean up pages and test to make sure all links are working properly
