IEPs

Each public school child who receives special education and related services must have an Individualized Education Program (IEP). The IEP creates an opportunity for teachers, parents, school administrators, related services personnel, and students (when appropriate) to work together to improve educational results for children with disabilities. Supreme Court Rules That Parents Have Rights Too

On May 21, 2007 The Supreme Court ruled in Winkelman v. Parma School District that parents could proceed in court without attorneys in IEP cases. Both parent and child have the right to have Free Appropriate Public Education provided to the child.
