A Chance to Read
New PBS Show on Giving Everyone a Chance to Read
Hosted by Molly Ringwald, A Chance to Read shows children with different disabilities who are learning to read — children who were once never given a chance. Go to the front lines of the schools and watch teachers and researchers work with these children. LD OnLine offers two excerpts from the show, part of the Reading Rockets Launching Young Readers series, that cover the life span of reading challenges — from childhood to adulthood.
Visit Dr. Higgins' class where he teaches children who are "twice exceptional" — gifted and LD. He addresses their reading difficulties while at the same time pushing the kids to produce sophisticated projects that tap their potential.
