Chelsea Educator Wins National Teacher Appreciation Day Honor
(Washington, DC) - LDOnLine.org, the world's leading Web site on learning disabilities and ADHD, has named Ashley Sumners of Chelsea Park Elementary in Chelsea, Alabama, as a national "Teacher We Appreciate." The selection was based on a nomination made by a parent of a student in Ms. Sumners' second grade class who credited the teacher for putting her child on the path to reading.
Ms. Sumners and the nominating parent will both receive a $100 gift certificate to LDOnLine.org's new online store, LearningStore.org.
"Reaching out to struggling students requires particular skills," said Noel Gunther, executive director of LDOnline.org. "Knowing how to help a child who is struggling or feels isolated is crucial to helping that child succeed. Our goal is to help parents and teachers find the information they need to help these children move forward. We wanted to help celebrate some of those outstanding teachers in honor of all the educators who make a difference every day in the lives of children."
"I have an eight-year-old daughter who was recently diagnosed with dyslexia," wrote the nominating parent. "Her self esteem was extremely low because she simply could not get it no matter how hard she worked. But Ms. Sumners makes every student feel as though she is the most special person in the entire world. My daughter now loves to read! She still struggles but she is positive about it. What a difference this one wonderful precious teacher has made in my little girl's life."
