D.C. Language Access Coalition

The D.C. Language Access Coalition's (Coalition) goal is to ensure that DC residents and workers who are limited English proficient (LEP) or non-English proficient (NEP) have equal access to the most essential government benefits and services including food stamps, Medicaid, health care, unemployment benefits, job training programs, public education, fire and emergency services, the police department and mental health services.

A BiFolkal kit is a packaged program designed to bring back memories on a particular time or topic. Each kit is designed to unlock remarkable stories, humorous anecdotes, and first-person accounts of history, experience and life. The thematic kits contain cultural artifacts, resources, and tools. The Dakota County Library in Minnesota offers a number of kits on a wide variety of topics.

DC Public Library: Bookflix

Scholastic BookFlix is an online resource available at no cost through the District of Columbia Public Library Web site for DC library card holders, and for purchase through Scholastic.com. BookFlix offers high-quality Flash video picture books to link fact and fiction and to promote early reading skills. Some materials are available in Spanish.

The Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund, Inc., (DREDF) is one of the leading national law and policy center in disability civil rights. DREDF was founded in 1979 by a unique alliance of adults with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities.

You'll find information about teaching strategies, using assistive technologies in the classroom, and preparing for college, financial aid, and scholarships.
