South Carolina Education Association is a National Education Association State Affiliate that regularly lobbies legislators for the resources schools need, campaigns for higher professional standards for the teaching profession, and files legal actions to protect academic freedom and the rights of school employees.

South Carolina State Parent Information Resource Centers

The SC PIRC reaches out to parents of low-income, minority, and limited English proficient children enrolled in elementary and secondary schools, helping them to understand No Child Left Behind legislation and to communicate effectively with school personnel.

South Dakota Education Association

Star Bright Books

Star Bright Books is an independent publishing company dedicated to producing the highest quality books for children. Star Bright Books produces books that embrace children of all colors, nationalities, and abilities, and they currently publish books in 16 languages.

Starfall

The Starfall learn-to-read website is offered free as a public service. Primarily designed for first grade, the site is also useful for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and second grade, and Home Schooling.

Starfall: ABC Printouts

Printable little pages and books for each letter of the alphabet. Includes a picture for each letter such as "A for Apple."

State Education Resource Center (CT)

SERC is a nonprofit agency primarily funded by the Connecticut State Department of Education. SERC provides professional development and information dissemination in the latest research and best practices to educators, service providers, and families throughout the state, as well as job-embedded technical assistance and training within schools, programs, and districts.

State English Language Proficiency Standards: New York

The New York State Education Department Office of Bilingual Education has developed these standards, which are meant to serve as the foundation for ESL curriculum, instruction, and assessment for all LEP/ELLs in New York State, grades Pre-K through 12. The NYS ESL learning standards also serve as the framework for the New York State ESL Achievement Test (NYSESLAT), which is administered annually to all LEP/ELLs in New York.

State English Language Proficiency Standards: Wisconsin

This website from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction includes information on the ACCESS test, translation accommodations, standards, and criteria for reclassification of ELL students.

Stern Center for Language and Learning

The Stern Center is a non-profit learning and literacy center providing direct service to individuals (instruction and diagnostic services), professional development for educators, and research on learning and literacy.

Story Arts: International Folktales

An online library of short international folktales for children to retell.

Storyline Online

The Screen Actors Guild Foundation produces this site, which presents audio and video clips of actors reading favorite children's books. Related activities are also included with each story.

StoryPlace

StoryPlace is an interactive site for children (with both an English and Spanish version), created to provide a virtual experience of going to the library and participating in the types of activities the library offers. StoryPlace currently consists of two libraries, the Preschool Library and Elementary Library, with new activities and themes added each month.
