Teaching English Language Vocabulary

Here you will find a variety of activities and lesson plans designed specifically for vocabulary instruction for English language learners.

Teaching LD

Teaching LD provides information and resources for teaching students with learning disabilities. It is a service of the Division for Learning Disabilities (DLD) of the Council for Exceptional Children. DLD is a international professional organization consisting of teachers, psychologists, clinicians, administrators, higher education professionals, parents, and others.

Teaching Tolerance: Classroom Resources

Teaching Tolerance is dedicated to reducing prejudice, improving inter-group relations and supporting equitable school experiences for children. The interactive Web site provides free educational materials, including downloadable curricula, classroom activities, and an e-newsletter.

Teaching With Timelines

This resource is a place where parents and educators can learn the many ways in which timelines can be used to support learning. A variety of formats are presented, including wall timelines and notebook timelines, and there are colorful photographs illustrating each one.


TeachingLD provides resources about teaching students with Learning Disabilities, including content about assessment, instruction, and policy. Topics include curriculum-based measurement for monitoring student progress; teaching methods such a co-teaching and direct instruction; and current issues such as response-to-intervention models.


Teachnet offers lesson plans in a variety of content areas, and classroom tools to help with classroom management and organization.

Technical Assistance Alliance for Parent Centers

The website provides publications, resources, workshop and training curricula, and a calendar of events for parents of children with disabilities.

Technical Assistance ALLIANCE for Parent Centers

Parent Training and Information Centers (PTIs) and Community Parent Resource Centers (CPRCs) in each state provide training and information to parents of infants, toddlers, children, and youth with disabilities and to professionals who work with children. This assistance helps parents to participate more effectively with professionals in meeting the educational needs of children and youth with disabilities. The Parent Centers work to improve educational outcomes for children and youth with all disabilities (emotional, learning, mental, and physical).

Tell Me a Story

This website gives step-by-step instructions on how to provide a well organized lesson in which ELLs can build vocabulary and comprehension by retelling stories. It also offers several links to a variety of stories, as well as information about classroom discussions and assessments.

Tennessee Education Association

Tennessee Education Association is a National Education Association State Affiliate that regularly lobbies legislators for the resources schools need, campaigns for higher professional standards for the teaching profession, and files legal actions to protect academic freedom and the rights of school employees.

TESOL: Pre-K-12 English Language Proficiency Standards

The new PreK-12 English Language Proficiency Standards, an augmentation of the WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards, provides extensive matrices elucidating sample performance indicators, organized by the five standards (targeting language in social/intercultural interactions, language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies) and grade-level cluster. This publication is available for purchase from TESOL.
