Mailman Center for Child Development /University of Miami School of Medicine

The Mailman Center for Child Development at the University of Miami is an integral part of the School of Medicine's Department of Pediatrics. The Center offers extensive research facilities for education and contains everything needed to fulfill its mission of research, training, and services to children with special needs and their families.

Misunderstood Minds

The PBS documentary Misunderstood Minds shines a spotlight on learning differences and disabilities. Produced and directed by renowned Frontline filmmaker Michael Kirk, this 90-minute special shows the children's problems in a new light, and serves as a platform to open a nationwide dialogue on how best to manage young, vulnerable, and misunderstood minds.

Muskingum College Center for Advancement of Learning - Learning Strategies Database

The CAL Learning Strategies Database is a collection of learning strategies intended for use in postsecondary contexts, but applicable to elementary and secondary levels, or adults, with modification. Designed for both students and instructors, this site helps students understand and take responsibility for their own learning.

National Association for Bilingual Education

The National Association for Bilingual Education is the only professional organization at the national level wholly devoted to representing both English language learners and bilingual education professionals. National Association of Private Schools for Exceptional Children

The National Association of Private Schools for Exceptional Children is a nonprofit association whose mission is to ensure access for individuals to private special education as a vital component of the continuum of appropriate placement and services in American education. The association consists solely of private special education schools that serve both privately and publicly placed children with disabilities.

National Black Child Development Institute

Since 1970 The National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI) a nonprofit organization has provided and supported programs, workshops, and resources for African American children, their parents and communities. Through hands-on service and community-outreach programs, NBCDI initiates positive change for the health, welfare, and educational needs of all African American children.

National Center for Latinos with Disabilities

National Center for Latinos with Disabilities is the only not-for-profit statewide organization focusing solely on the empowerment of Latinos with disabilities and their families. NCLD works toward the equal participation of this population in all aspects of society in an independent, productive, and meaningful manner — through unique linguistically and culturally appropriate advocacy, training, information and referral programs.

National Center for Learning Disabilities

The mission of the National Center for Learning Disabilities is to increase opportunities for all individuals with learning disabilities to achieve their potential. NCLD accomplishes its mission by increasing public awareness and understanding of learning disabilities, conducting educational programs and services that promote research-based knowledge, and providing national leadership in shaping public policy.

National Center on Accelerating Student Learning, Vanderbilt Univeristy

The Center on Accelerating Student Learning (CASL) is designed to accelerate learning for students with disabilities in the early grades and thereby to provide a solid foundation for strong achievement in the intermediate grades and beyond. CASL is a five-year collaborative research effort supported by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). Participating institutions are the University of Maryland, Teachers College of Columbia University, and Vanderbilt University.

National Center on Student Progress Monitoring

The National Center on Student Progress Monitoring is dedicated to the implementation of scientifically-based student progress monitoring for grades K-5. The Center works to provide technical assistance to states and districts and disseminate information about student progress monitoring practices proven to work in different academic content areas. The National Center on Student Progress Monitoring is a technical assistance and dissemination center funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs.

NICHCY provides information to the nation on: disabilities in children and youth; programs and services for infants, children, and youth with disabilities; IDEA, the nation's special education law; No Child Left Behind, the nation's general education law; and research-based information on effective practices for children with disabilities.

National Education Association

Founded in 1857 in Philadelphia and now headquartered in Washington, D.C., NEA proudly claims more than 2.5 million members who work at every level of education, from pre-school to university graduate programs. At the national level, NEA's work ranges from coordinating innovative projects to restructuring how learning takes place to fighting congressional attempts to privatize public education.

National Parent Teacher Association

National PTA is the largest volunteer child advocacy organization in the United States. A not-for-profit association of parents, educators, students, and other citizens active in their schools and communities. PTA is a leader in reminding our nation of its obligations to children.
