Subject: best remedial math programs

Hello. I would like a list of the best remedial programs out there that I can check out. I will be tutoring some children in math this summer that are going in Grade 6 but are functioning at a Grade 2 level. What would you suggest? I would like something that includes asssessments if possible.

Read some of the posts; many programs are mentioned. Landmark Schools has a good step by step program. www.landmarkschool.org (look for outreach & publications along the top row.)

In a nutshell you want to start over, if htey're at Grade 2, andbuild a strong foundation. You won't catch 'em up over the summer. If you try to, you'll just add one more layer of *confusion* and anxiety, and probably no knowledge at all.

The others that are probably best require training (or it would be recommended):

I like Math-U-See for a year round curriculum.

Subject:TouchMath

I found TouchMath to be quite effective for remedial math with my daughter. She has dyscalculia and had a horrible time with math until I started TouchMath with her. All of a sudden it was like a lightbulb going on and she took off. She went from struggling to enjoying math and is now only 6 months behind, from 2 - 3 years behind. (http://www.touchmath.com) I don't work for them, just think they have a great product for kinetic/visual learners.

The very best math program is DOTMATH for kids. You can only get it from the dotmath club library as a loaner. The website is http://dotmath.tripod.com/
This works for all kids (k-5). It is called THE FUN BOOK because they have fun with it and learn with it. You must make a request from the email address on the site to get a book.
