Well, there are several hundred parents and students here, and probably hundreds of thousands around the country, who would definitely argue this point, and if you met them you would see that something is definitely going on.
There are always excesses, and a certain number of students get labelled as learning disabled when the problem is that they haven't been taught -- and that certainly clouds the issue -- but yes, there are others who definitely are different.
Controversial topics are a good thing; there would be no progress and not much interest if we had no controversies. Just a suggestion: you might get more factual and useful info and less emotional argument if you had presented this question in a different way, for example "what do you think about . . ?".

Mr. Cruise's whole delivery is absurd - hey, he *knows* everything about the history of psychiatry, etc. (If he really does, then he could probably make a better self-diagnosis; his behaviors have a lot of clinical signs of, oh, good old fashioned delusions of grandeur.)
As soon as somebody has stopped questioning, I know they're no longer looking for truth -- just An Answer. One way to keep annoying questions from causing discomfort is to shout your so-called "truth" even more loudly. I've found this a characteristic of a lot of Right people - and Left ones, too.

I think Mr. Cruise is an arrogant moron who is not in touch with reality!
PLUS, HE'S A TERRIBLE ACTOR! HE CAN'T ACT!!!
If his message came from another person, I might be inclinded to take it more seriously. There may be better methods out there besides giving all these kids ritalin. I don't argue with that.
But Cruise is a rich moron who doesn't have to struggle with most of the things we do. But then again, visa versa.

Everything I've read says Tom Cruise credits Scientology with helping him overcome his dyslexia. When did he say LD didn't exist?

Tom Cruise is bonkers and please do not believe him. He has said that Scientology helped him with his dyslexia because of something they do called study tech (or words to that effect), which is where you read and highlight and look up in a dictionary every word you do not understand. Now, that could work well for French...like if you are in Intermediate French and had to read a little story? I figure it would work well for that. But, I do not think that Study Tech is something that could cure dyslexia. It could teach you patience if you had dyslexia, though...and patience is something we all need.
He also says that there is no reason for anyone with ADD or any form of mental illness at all to go on meds. He says that through a Scientology regime of megavitamins and saunas and whatnot (I am not making this up) that you can control your ADD or your manic depression. I think that, like I said before, that Tom Cruise is bonkers. But I also think he is dangerous because some people might be dumb enough to believe him and that is horrible.
