Subject: ???Is there a link b/t ADHD & CAPD???

I am a graduate student in Speech Pathology researching both ADHD & CAPD. Does anyone know if there is a common link b/t the two? If there is, would you kindly share your knowledge and direct me towards some literature. Thank you for your time.

PASSWORD>aaI221mi7wL3II am in my last semester as an undergrad SLP student and there is such a strong link between CAPD and ADHD that it isn't funny. Where do you go to school? Hasn't anyone in the program shared this with you? I am doing my research papers on this link. Check the ADVANCE magazine for SLP's they have been doing stories about this link all summer, as well as ASHA's speech and hearing journals and Audiology journals. There is a bunch of stuff in these journals, just start looking in the college library.Cal State Northridge has done studies on this link. I went to a presentation in chicago by two professors of Northridge. One was a psychiatrist and the other an audiologist. The comorbidity was truly remarkable.

His neurologist has told me that the "the capd is under an umbrella of the more comprehensive problem of the ADD". I am not sure that I buy into this completely for explaining his capd. He has a history of many ear infections, and family history for both capd and ADD. What I can say is that he has compensated for the capd fairly well, although he misses directions occasionally. He is currently in middle school. It was far worse in the early grades, but he learned to follow oral language by 3rd grade. Testing very much shows the capd, and he was not medicated for the ADD when tested.

Yes the comorbidity is high. No this does not mean there is a genetic link. One study showed high comorbidity between ADHD and LD, including CAPD. The reason for this seemed to be "nonrandom mating;" in other words, people who have one of the 2 syndromes tend to pair up with a spouse who has the other. If you search on MedLine for "comorbidity and ADHD" you should have success in finding the article. I can get the cite if you need it.
