Subject: Teaching Primary Resource Students

Hello! I have taught 6th-8th grade Resource students for the past 7 years, and next year I will be teaching all grades at my school (K-8th grade). It has been a very long time since I have taught K-5 students, so I am open to any advice, ideas, good materials and resources, etc. for working with this age group.

Thank you! :-)

You may want to read about what I am doing with reading decoding: http://learntoreadnow.blogspot.com
I believe that it is possible to teach everyone (with approx "normal" intelligence) to read.

Hello Anita and Jana:

Anita I will definitely order your book. Jana you may wish also take a look at it. I have a friend who teaches special education at the elementary level. She has taken a lot of time, effort and her own money to learn about phonics-based approaches to the teaching of reading for special education students. I definitely think all special education teachers should have knowledge about phonics-based approaches to reading. This is so often left out of the standard curriculum. As my friend often points out these students need this extra approach to succeed at reading.

Jim,
You understand what I am doing. I'm happy to hear that. Yes, I think many teachers would learn much about the real sounds of the words in our language if they would study my book.
And those who learn to use the system can have any number of teaching/tutoring jobs. All they need to do is to promise to teach the students to read the way they will be able to learn, then do it.
