confidentiality and education environment

Wondering if anyone can give me any advice on this issue? I have been told by a coworker that it is a breach of confidentiality for us, as special educators, to be sharing a room with an English as a Second Language teacher. I have also been told that it is a breach of confidentiality for me to know the students my coworker is working with and viceversa. Having taught for many years, I have never encountered these concerns - are the true?
