Subject: SSI denial
I am wondering if anyone has tried to get SSI so there is money to help pay for the specialized treatments and therapies not covered by insurance? We tried for my dd Fragile X but was denied because my husband has a 401K & they considered part of that her money. EVEN though we have 4 kids and are income is below the level.
Anyone else dealt with this?
THANKS!
Rebecca

I haven't personally dealt with it but I know people who have. From what I understand it is "typical" to get denied the first time. Re-apply or contest the denial.
http://www.bazelon.org/ssiforchildren.html This site has good information on SSI for children with disabilities.

The application we filled out for DDD in NJ, only asks for money that the kids have in their names. Our money is not asked or requested. Maybe you can re-do the application again.
We were denied also since my kids do not meet the criteria of Developmental Delay. I am currently re-applying my son for DDD cash disbursement fund because my son has memory problems and low language both of which affects daily life and learning.
Let us know how things go.
