disability VS impairment??

The school system may tell you that your child has been found eligible under Specific Learning Disability. The Psychologist may tell you he/she has a Learning Disability. However, impaired is when something does not improve over time as in a Speech/language impairment. Children with Learning Disabilities can compensate and even overcome in certain situations. My child has a learning disability as defined by the school system, however that is not a medical diagnosis. These terms are all used only to receive services. Miami/mom
