Has anyone tried the "FAST FORWARD" phonics based reading instruction software that was shown on on the ABC Sunday Evening News on 3/25/01?

You mean the new reading program put out by the same company that makes FastForWord, right? The company is Scientific Learning (http://www.scilearn.com).
FastForWord has been out quite awhile and I have seen a lot of posts about it. The reading program is very new (just a few months old, I think), and I haven't seen any posts about it yet.
Personally, I think it would be very hard to beat Phono-Graphix (http://www.readamerica.net) when it comes to actually teaching reading.

Hi Pat,
I used to work at Gulliver Academy in Miami, Florida. I know that they use Fast ForWord, and I've heard a lot of positive feedback from the parents involved. You might want to call them or see if they have any info. online. Good luck!

My son Jacob started the Fast forward reading program at the begining of 4th grade. When tested he was at a 2nd grade reading level and by the end of the year he was at a begining 5th grade reading level. I can not say enough good things about the program.
Unfortunately we have relocated and his new school does not offer the program and he is falling behind again.

Fast ForWord programs are offered by private providers and you can generally do them at home wiht guidance. Call the company (Scientific Learning) and ask them to give you names of providers who do home-based programs. I am thinking of doing that eventually. Maybe next summer as that is a better time for most children to do FFW at home.
Another thing to keep in mind is that a child generally should always do Fast ForWord Language and Language to Reading prior to doing the Fast ForWord Reading programs.
