Not sure what my next steps should be, so any information you can provide me would be great!
I live in Maryland. My daughter was diagnosed in 2007 with LD, ODD, ADHD and Amnestic Disorder. She has had an IEP for the last 6 years. This year she started high school and it was the hardest year yet. She is on 54 mgs of concerta each day to help her focus. This year we noticed that when she does not take her medication she turns into an angry, defiant person that does not hear a word we say. This past school year (her first in high school), she was very defiant in getting her work done in class and doing her homework, and if she did her homework, she didn't turn it in. She was given an opportunity to go to a special school (audition with talent)that she loves, but she didn't show it by her poor performance. She now has to attend summer school and chances are high that she will be dismissed from her school due to her poor performance in her talent that she got in the school for. I am seeking advice as to what I should do over the summer, so my questions are... should I.... Get her re-evaluated by a neuropsychologist again (chances are BC/BS may not pay for it again) to see if she has additional symptoms, etc.? Should I take her to a psychiatrist for an evaluation because of her behavior in being defiant with trying to cause harm to herself and running away? Or should, I take her a psychologist or counseling sessions. I'm not really sure why she has started this under-achievement issue when in the past, she atleast tried to perform somewhat. I'm not really concerned about her being dismissed from the school, because we have others that she can go to. However, it is just heartbreaking to watch her make these choices.
