Subject: Sleeping better

Greetings,

My now 15yo dd has had difficulty sleeping ever since 2nd grade. For years it has taken her 2-3hrs to fall asleep each night. It's been agony for all of us. At her pediatrician's recommendation, we recently had her try melatonin which was initially successful but eventually diminished the quality of her sleep due to excessive dreaming (despite days off from taking it). About two weeks ago, my dd thought to try using ear plugs and she has been falling asleep quickly and staying asleep ever since. It's amazing!! All these years we thought she couldn't sleep because her mind wouldn't quiet down but perhaps it's been hypersensitivity to noise with her APD that has caused the problem.

Has anyone else tried earplugs for their children's sleep problems?

Blessings, momo

Our doctor recommended a sound machine with just background noise and it has transformed our lives. She goes to sleep easier and more importantly at almost 9 she is sleeping through the night. Ear plugs might be great for traveling too. Lori

Very interesting! Our son had the same problem, but we eventually came to the conclusion it was tied into ADD-inattentive. He is in college now and sleeps 4 or 5 hours at night (beginning around 2 am) and takes a nap in the afternoon. I had to stop worrying about it. But I'm going to mention the ear plugs to him anyway!

Janis,

We always thought my dd's sleep problems were attributed to ADD-inattentive or anxiety issues also so we are quite surprised to find out that it is something else altogether! That's why I posted our story in case it would help someone else. Maybe it'll help your ds too!

Momo,

Figuring out our children is like putting together a 1000 piece puzzle without seeing the box top, isn't it? It would be wonderful to find a simple solution to one problem at least!

Blessings to you, too!
