My son has been suicidal due to the stress of school (lack of services and out of compliance with current services). I have begged the school for help -although was not smart enough to reconvene an IEP. I told them he has been suicidal and they called CPS (even though we had professional help). Apparently they have done this to other families with kids in special ed. for even more ridiculous reasons. Does anyone know of this happening elsewhere and if I have recourse for this specific event?
Yes,this unfortunately happens. There is little you can do in regards to the investigation, but certainly a lot you can do in regards to the schools obiligation to provide the psychiatric counseling and care they are concerned about.
In other words, they are concerned enough to request CPS referal, then they agree counseling is needed, they are now obligated to provide this related service in the form of a plan .
