Subject: PACE

My daughter has just completed the Lindamood Bell program and the results have been excellent. Now the tutotring centre is recommending the PACE program for her. This is a Processing and Cognitive Enhancemtn program that claims to incresase learning skills. Has any one had any expereince with this program. Is it worth the larger investment of time? Here is a website for more information... http://www.learninginfo.com/

Just about a year ago my then 11 year old son finished PACE. I actually took the training and did the program with him myself. (They are not offering that option now, though.) It was so positive. He has had a lot of tutoring and had been making slow, steady gains for 3 years. After PACE he made huge gains in reading and writing and is at or above grade level in both areas now. He just told me at dinner tonight that he finished reading "Lord of the Rings" today. Before PACE, there is no way in the world that would have happened.

I have subsequently become a PACE provider and have worked with 8 kids now. I've had really good results with everyone, and I've worked with kids from 8-18. One boy has very serious, multiple learning disabilities, and his progress has been the slowest. We've been working all school year. Nonetheless, with PACE and the companion program Master the Code, he has gone from being a non-reader to reading at around the 3rd grade level. I think it's a great program.

My son is working 2X a week with a tutor (a Phd in reading) using an Orton based approach. How would PACE complement or differ from what we are already doing?

PACE doesn't teach reading (they have another program that does--Master the Code). It rather tries to work on underlying cognitive processing skills that make reading and other academics easier.

From what I understand, PACE helps your child to process information more efficently. It is well explained on the website I provided above. It is well worth the read if you are interested in knowing the difference.
