Subject: Interactive metranome - Any experience with?

I have 2 ADHD daughters, 7 & 9. My 9 year old is having outputting issues with information she has successfully taken in. I am interested in hearing if people have any experience / success with interactive metranome. Has it helped? What questions should I ask about it?

She does not have a handwriting issue, as she does not problem with dictation. The best way I can express it is through a computer anaolgy - she has a great computer but the buffer in the printer isn't big enough to take all that data & get it out quickly. She has issues wiith both written and oral articulation.

Rewom,

There have been a lot of posts recently on the "Parenting a Child with LD" Bulletin Board here. Go there and read through the posts and it may answer some of your questions. I had a few extra questions about IM because I am starting to look into it for my son, and the I e-mailed them and the people there were friendly and helpful.

Your comment about written and oral articulation struck a nerve with me - have you looked at any information on auditory processing disorders? My son has one (and ADHD, NLD, anxiety), and those seem to be his biggest issues. We had the APD diagnosed by a licensed audiologist, with a referral from our primary care physician, and the insurance company paid for it.

My son just finished IM last week. The biggest gains I have seen have been in sequencing. What month comes before Nov? What number comes after 10,000? etc

I did not see a jump in reading and the jury is still out on the writing. He already reads at grade level. He may be writing a little faster but the spelling and sentence structure are still a problem.

I have seen a jump in independance. When I say it is time to do your homework he sits down and just does it with minimal help. His math abilities have really jumped. He also does better at visual things like reading a clock or analyzing graphs. He will now sit down and draw pictures which is something he never wanted to do before. (I also have done some visual perception exercises that may have contributed.)

I am taking him out of the in class support classroom at his request. He just doesn't want all of the extra help. I don't think he would be able to handle the reg ed class if not for IM. (Fingers double crossed that this will work)

I have also seen improvements in motor abilities.

Overall I think it is an amazing program. My son's timing in the end after 24 sessions was overall 42ms. His original score was 250ms. I will do this again with him to get his score even lower. We are on a break for now.
