Subject: aide and communication checklist log

Hi, do any of you on this list have an aide for your child? My child (a second grader) has an aide for four hours out of the day. I am looking for advice on questions I can put on a daily communication sheet that would communicate to me what my child can and cannot do. Thank you.

Hi K.-
Last year I had a one-on-one aide with a student in my class. The assistant was very good at communicating with the child's parents about his social behavior and how his day went. She would write up a log and keep it in a note book which was sent home every night. The parents would also write back everyday, and the aide would share the concerns with the teachers.

If you're looking to communicate with your child's aide about social behavior/skills, then I would suggest making a checklist that specifies the areas he needs to work on. Have his aide keep a short, to the point, log of your child's activities for the day. I'm sure this will help you understand better how he is doing in the social environment of school.

I would direct any questions about academic progress to the teacher.

Hope this helps!

you might want to have the IEP goals listed on the checklist just as a reminder to record progress.
