Subject: Social Skills Training for Dyslexic Students
Does anyone have suggestions on what type of professional does social skills training? My son attends a private Dylexic School in Austin, Tx and parents of 12-14 year olds are looking to have social skills training for our children. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks.

It can fall into several domains but I've heard of where there's a marvelous Occupational Therapist who offers 'classes' in social skills training for children and teenagers. She also trains other OTs and they're be some in your area. If you're interested, get in touch with 'Collage' based in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

I am familiar with local OT 's that do group OT that promote social skills. My son participated in a social skills group that was facilitated by a social worker. It was great. (he's also dyslexic) I was referred to her by his previous speech therapist, who also runs groups for kids. Any of these professions might have practitioners in your area that do this. I'd start asking around. I'm surprised the school doesn' t have any ideas?

I have seen it done in speech and this seems appropriate. Also, look up on the web Michelle Garcia-Winner she has a great program and training.
