Subject: Bad meeting with my boss today. help!

<HTML>Today at 4:15pm my supervisor call me into his office, this is the second time that he has done this, I am a tech support specialist which mean I take tons of calls all day. the problem is that there are so many task emails, inbound calls, follow ups, and on and on.
Its getting to point that they are now documenting every time I miss a task. If I don’t improve he said they will have to terminate me. The question that I have is: Since I have ADD is there any job protection laws?</HTML>

<HTML>AA,
I have disclosed that I have ADD to my manager. He said that he has dyslexia and told me a story about when he was in the military he could not learn by reading the manuals so he had to sit down with a type writer and type all the manuals page by page that was the only way he could learn the material. He then chewed me out about not knowing the system (Proprietary software that we sell) but he never could tell me what he meant by knowing the system, although he tried. Anyways I have also told my supervisor the first time he spoke to me about this matter but I am sure if asked both would say that I never told them anything. AA how should I document that I told both that I have ADD?

Thank you,

Louie</HTML>

<HTML>Talk to someone at the Dept. of Labor and then an attorney specializing in employment law. But most likely the best and quickest answer is to resign, politely and professionally, and on good terms, siting "personal reasons" (That usually scares 'em a bit). But check with an atty first. Then go find a new job that hopefully is a better fit.

Are you on medication. If not, it may help. It helped me alot. I could not have done my job without it.</HTML>

<HTML>THe thing is, you have a right to keep your job *IF* you can do it, with the right reasonable accommodations.

However, you don't have a legal right to keep your job if you can't do it. I wouldn't be able to do that job for exactly those reasons. One of the most frustrating things about ADD issues is that it's the "harder" jobs that are more do-able -- but how do you get t here? (YOu don't do it by coming across as litigious.)</HTML>

<HTML>What you really need to do is to determine whether you CAN do your job with reasonable accomodations, and if so, what accomodations you need. The ADA does NOT protect you if you are unable to do your job with reasonable accomodations, and falls short of requiring the company to hire you a secretary to keep you on task. However, could you benefit from software to help you track your tons of calls, emails, follow ups, and on and on? Do you need a time management course? Do you need your supervisor to sit down with you once a week and go over your work to help keep you on track? Those would be considered reasonable accomodations for a larger company to make.</HTML>

<HTML>You have some protection under Americans with Disabilities Act. Here is an article on it which is posted on LD Online http://www.ldonline.org/bulletin_boards/adults_ld.html</HTML>

<HTML>The ADA is a joke. However it is being used successfully by NAAFA an organization of gluttons whining about fat acceptance. Because they are fat and they vote their ridiculous agenda is taken seriously, Seem their are a lot of fat sleazy lawyers who champion their cause.</HTML>
