Subject: parents with a learning disability

<HTML>Hi,
my name is jacqui and i am conducting some research into services that are offered to parents with a learning disability.
I am hoping to talk with parents about their experiences, good and bad, of becoming a parent.
My research is taking place in Stockton on Tees, in the hope that we can learn from parents and begin to provide more of the services they need or want.
I would be very interested to talk with any parents who access this site, as I am currently struggling to make contact with parents in my area. I am hopeful that you may be able to give me some hints about where to try looking next.</HTML>

<HTML>This is in response to the help you need with parents that are ld. I am one of those people who is diagnosed with the disorder. (hopefully it is the adults that have it and not the kids) I find it very difficult to recieve any support from the college that i am attending and most professors find it difficult to interact with the student. We are not stupid, and have alot of intelligence, unfortuanetly it is the type of teaching in college that i find difficult to follow.

What ways can an adult adjust so they may recieve the academic achievement as the others.

thanks ursula (mom of two teen age boys, both of which do not have an ld, but i find my younger teen showing signs of struggle)</HTML>

<HTML>Mom of 5 and I have 1ADHD and 1 LD and 2 ADD
I was never Diagnosed at either LD or ADD/ADHD but my 2 younger brothers were, I should have been.
I know I am Learning Disabled but have never sought help - I am now wishing I had ( I am 37).
I have a 20 year old daughter who has just now Realized she needs help too and Med's and now wants to see a Dr but has to wait until March when she has her 1st Baby, It's funny though- she would never take meds when she was growing up (Can't swallow Pills either) and is now willing to.
I have considered takeing my Boys Concerta to see if it helped but have yet to try.

<HTML>I must apologise for the delay in replying to the question "Where in the World is that?" I ahve been moving house and writing up my research and neglected to go on the net for a while, sorry!

Stockton is in the North East of England.

Thankyou to Ursula and Roxanne for answering, e-mails have now been sent to you both and some info as well.

Many thanks to anyone who took the time to read my request for help, I will make sure I check more regularly next time I post a request.

Best Regards

<HTML>Roxanne

I tried to send you an e-mail but it just got sent back, could you contact me again using another e-mail address and I will send you some info and attachments that you may find helpful.

I would recommend looking on the http://schwablearning.org/ as I have found it useful and also http://www.disabledparentsnetwork.org.uk are also worth looking at for support as a parent.

Hope you let me know your new address.

Best Wishes

Jacqui</HTML>
