What you should know
before seeking help from a professional

Students with learning disabilities (LD) and/or Attention-deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are smart. Nonetheless they have difficulty with academic tasks such as reading, writing, and paying attention.

How can a professional help?

Professionals are experts who have advanced training in the needs of students with LD and ADHD. Some have skills in diagnosis, intervention, and counseling. Others provide medical and legal advice.

It can be hard to figure out what different professionals do. Many different kinds of experts are often involved because LD and ADHD affect so many kinds of learning and behavior.

The important thing to remember is that a good diagnosis and intervention are key to success. Who you choose to diagnose or work with your child is an important decision. The following pages will show you how to make that decision.
