Center for Community Inclusion

The University of Maine Center for Community Inclusion, Maine’s University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service, is a partnership of people that brings together the resources of the community and the University to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families.

Council for Exceptional Children

The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted. CEC advocates for appropriate governmental policies, sets professional standards, provides continual professional development, advocates for newly and historically underserved individuals with exceptionalities, and helps professionals obtain conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice.

National Association of Private Schools for Exceptional Children

The National Association of Private Schools for Exceptional Children is a nonprofit association whose mission is to ensure access for individuals to private special education as a vital component of the continuum of appropriate placement and services in American education. The association consists solely of private special education schools that serve both privately and publicly placed children with disabilities.

PRIMERS

The Primers provide background information and resources to facilitate the successful inclusion of students with disabilities in charter schools.

TeachingLD

TeachingLD provides resources about teaching students with Learning Disabilities, including content about assessment, instruction, and policy. Topics include curriculum-based measurement for monitoring student progress; teaching methods such a co-teaching and direct instruction; and current issues such as response-to-intervention models.
