ADHD peoples rights

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Folks:

How many of you cannot get a good job or get into a good post secondary education ? Did you ever think why ??? Perhaps we are too docile or too nice. Make our tormentors eat mother’s milk or just sit in the area of the office day after day to shut the system down. Then they take people with ADD seriously. Do a Ghandi and protest till your blue in the fface.

My son has ADHD I think. He was put into Special Ed when he was in Kdg. through High School. He managed to join the navy but was unable to get rank because he could not score very high on the Navy Wide Exams. He is now working the US Post Office in Sacramento,CA. He wants to take the mechanics test. I don’t know where I could get him help to pass the test with a better score. He is a very slow reader. He learns very well when personally shown. So I think he is a verbal and hearing learner. Are there any mentors or helpers in the Sacramento,CA. area that could help him with this test?He is married and has a son. He really needs a better job to support them. If at all possible I would like to find someone that could help him. Finances are a problem also.

Mamm:

This is a problem with ADD folks. Smart but unable to show it. Perhaps, ask the local ADD association about it. You know: tips and advice to get a career jumpstart. Go to CHADD website and find out who is your local chapter and see if they can help advise you.

I also belive that because it is a disability recognized by the ADA that the Feds have to give you accomadations at work and for testing you should be able to have a lower score. I would go to the ADA and post with them and then come back to let us all know. Not only feds, but any place of work.

Kliest, I hear you loud and clear. I also think you are right. At one time or another something is going to hit someone right where it hurst. The heart. Then they will wake up and say …” we are smart human beings and we are going to get the respect we deserve.”
