ADHD testing

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I’m a 19 yr old college student that has had ADHD all my life but never taken any meds for it. I had recently tried a friend of minds adderal and WOW it made the biggest difference to me. I actually participated in my classes. anyways Ive been told in order to get any medication I have to get another ADHD test done. I am not sure how to go about this. I dont have insurance and cannot afford a $400 test just to tell me something that I already know so if anyone has any advice for me. I would really appriciate it. Thank you so much.

Don’t let what someone has always told you about what’s needed before you can get medication for ADD keep you from getting help. They could be wrong or have outdated information. A re-test may not be needed at all and if it is, a re-test may not be $400.

Check with your doctor for the facts, and go from there.

Good luck to you.

I don’t know about your college, but my old one (Purdue) gave the tests for free to students and my current one (IUPUI) was $10 to register to see a doctor (for up to 8 times a semester for just the one fee) who recommended that I take the tests which will only be $25…maybe your school has the same dealie? I dunno…just a thought. If it is a school that is fairly big at all then it ought to have something and at a fairly decent cost.

good luck!
