After almost 3 weeks

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

For those of you who are newbies out there, I thought that sharing my experiences over the past three weeks (almost) on Strattera might provide some insight or assistance to some. The first two or three days were hell. I was so nauseous that I about quit right then. Little by little, however, the dizziness and nausea have subsided. Now I’m really starting to think this med is the best thing I’ve tried for my add. Here are a few things I’ve done to help alleviate the side effects:

1. Eat when (or before) taking the meds. I still find that taking them on an empty stomach makes me a bit quesy.

2. Put on hour or two between doses. I’m currently taking 80 mg - 40 mg at 7:00 a.m. and 40 mg at 8:00 or so. It helps eliminate the nausea for me.

3. Do some form of aerobic exercise daily. Not sure why this helps, but it works wonders for me. I have read it is good for people with add in general.

4. Don’t take it in the afternoon. I suffered through several sleepless nights before I worked this one out. Doh!

That’s it. I might update in two to three weeks if improvement continues.

Good luck!!

It was great that you stuck with it and got the results you’d hoped for. I’ve been on Straterra now about 2 months. My son has been on it 3 months. We didn’t have anything near the side effects you described, so for us it was just waiting it out until it had built to a sufficient level to be effective. Straterra has been a miracle. To be able to focus any time you want is heaven and means that we’re able to do things in the evening that weren’t possible before. It’s the best drug either of us have used for ADD. Since you’re almost at 3 weeks, you can look forward to still more improvement. It was more like 4 weeks for us and even after that there were more subtle improvements.

Good luck to you!

Thanks, Julie. That’s awesome to know. You are correct - I have noticed improvements since writing my initial post. Hopefully there are more to come!!

Now if it would just help my golf game…

I have been on strattera for a while myself also. I had the same horrible nausea and dizziness. After I learned that I had to eat with it, life was much better. It has been a miracle in my life. I can look my professors, clients etc in the eyes when speaking instead of around the room, I have managed to finish a written paper before 5 in the morning and one of these days I may actually organize my room (its a work in progess) Glad others have had as much success with it as i have
