Any ADHD Adults working in the Federal Goverment?

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I am an adult with ADHD, working at the National Institutes Of Health and get this…… suffering from harassment on the job. That’s right, I work for the government’s top health Institute and am being treated poorly by the same Government that wrote and backs the American’s With Disabilities Act. Am I the only one out there getting “Fixed by the Fed”? Anybody want to share?

Hi Janesd

Sorry you are having so many difficulties. By the way, I had applied for a position at the same place but accepted another one with a company outside the government. Now that I have read your post, I am glad I did.

From what I have heard, even though the Federal Government supposedly has the best accomodations policy towards workers with disabilities, just like with private industry, some agencies are going to better than others.

Is there anyway you can transfer to another agency? The Agriculture department has a support group for people with disabilities. Even if it isn’t possible to work there, you might want to do a google search and see if you can attend some of their meetings for networking purposes.

The Veterans Department seems to be good about hiring people with invisible disabilities like LD and mental illness.

Hang in there.
