If you are in college you can always start with the students with disabiltiies and ask for some testing and direction. If not then talk to your family doctor and maybe he can mak a recommendation to a psychiatrist. I know of one man who went to his General Doctor and explained that his son was diagnosed with ADD and that he suspected he had the same problem. She gave him the same medication that his boy was on and what a difference it made in his life.

The best place to begin to discuss ADHD is with the family physician (a medical doctor).

Epilepsy is parceled out to the neurologists; ADHD is parceled primarily out to the psychiatrists (although there are exceptions for both).

Neurology challenges such as epilepsy and ADHD are not formally parceled out by the medical community to known fringe medical specialties such as allergists because neither classic epilepsy nor classic ADHD are deemed to be caused by foods/whatever.

That’s my understanding.

Connect with CHADD, a nonprofit that helps people with ADHD. See chadd.org or if you live in northern california, see chaddnorcal.org. CHADD provides support, education and advocacy. It really helps to connect with others who understand.
