Hi Tabby,

I’ve never heard of it, can you tell us more about it? Might be useful for others who read these posts to know about…

Hi Tabby,

Concerta is a long acting stimulant that is used mostly for people with ADHD. An advantage supposedly is you only have to take it once in the morning for an all day effect instead of taking short acting stimulants like Adderall three times a day.

The good thing about stimulants is you should pretty quickly whether it it is going to be effective it or not. You might still need a dosage adjustment though.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

I tried Concerta and I did not find it helpful. I normally take adderall. It made me irritable I felt like I would if I’d had too many cups of coffee. It did not do anything to increase my focus. I would much prefer to take adderall. I reached a point where the dosage was not as effective as before. Rather than increase my dosage I stopped taking it for 7 days and it now works as well as it used to.

Tabby,

I was on Ritalin for SEVERAL years my doctor changed me to Concerta about 2 years ago….I have find it EXTREMELY helpful. The first 4-6 weeks you will experience side effects but they will soon pass.

If you have any questions let me know!

I’ve used both concerta nad adderall. Both help with my ADD. How your own chemistry interacts with these drugs is really the only way to assess what is right for you. Individual responses really vary. Someone else responded that concerta made them edgy and irritable. I find adderall has that effect on me more than concerta. It is true that side-efects tend to diminish with time. Also, if you feel like your meds aren’t working too well - ask other people in your life. Often an ADDer doesn’t notice the changes as much as those who interact with us do. Sometimes I don’t feel much different - but I realize at the end of the day, I have accomplished much more than I normally would without meds.

Best of luck -
allie
