Foreign Language and LD

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I have an extreme problem learning foreign languages. I have reviewed the info on this site and found it to be helpful. I’m not sure if I have a LD as I’ve not been diagnosed with one previously. However, I’m interested in finding out if it’s something that might be possible. Where do I go to take the first steps in finding out if this is my problem with foreign languages? Does medical insurance typically cover the costs associated with this? Thanks in advance.

Hi Steve,

Yes, medical insurance should pay for the neuropsychological exam - ask your family doctor or contact your local CHADD chapter for a referral. I think I read either on this site or on Dr. Edward Hallowell’s site that learning foreign languages is more difficult for individual’s with LD and ADHD.
You can check out Dr. Hallowell’s website, including his bulletin board and another informative site is the CHADD site (www.chadd.org).

Hope this helps,
Maria
