Getting back on my meds

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I took ritalin in college and it helped so much. I currently have not being taking any meds for sometime and have had many different problems from not being on medication, such as losing two different jobs (I am very impulsive). I want to get back on medication but I have no health insurance. What is the best way to get help when you have no health insurance? I also would like to know what meds you think is the best priced since the price will be a very big issue with me. my email is [email protected] for anyone who has time to help me out.

Thank you, Eric Gossick

Since you took Ritalin with positive benefit, maybe consider the generic form of Ritalin which is much less expensive. If you do a search on line, you could probably price the difference yourself or find some articles which discuss just that.

Where do you go when you’re sick? And who prescribed your medication for you in college? I’d head back to that doctor if I could so I didn’t have to start from scratch. And health insurance or not, you should have a physician that you regard as ‘your physician’. Someone to call - even if you have to pay for it yourself - if you’d get sick.

If you can’t use the doctor you used in college, ask your friends about their doctors. Around here a visit to a family doctor costs about $35 - $50. That might be money well spent just to establish a connection between yourself and a doctor and at the same time you could discuss your interest in going back on medication.

Good luck.

try going to your local Bural of rehabilitaion center and apply to open a case. If you have the proff you have add/adhd then they can help you get a job if you need it and they might be able to help you out with money for meds or insurence. its worth a try. I was just dx with adhd and dyslexa about 1 year ago at the age of 22 and bvr is helping me with / paying for reading classes for me. good luck
