Jerry, Everyone –

The ”Forums of LD Online” are for those assisting people with
LD; and those who have LD issues, an opportunity and avenue
to seek resources ( help ) and get advice on how to improve their situation. I’ve tried to help Lost Genius, by sending him some
private messages. I have found that if people demonstrate that
they are trying to get help, and need a bit more advice, help and guidance, they will get respect; and some folks will make an effort to assist. Name calling does not do anyone good. Many of us have been labeled already. Some of us prefer to see ourselves as “Differently Abled” . ( Some others don’t spend the time on the issue at all; we are
trying to ” get along – with family, neighbors, and co-workers ) .

Let’s try to ask if people are trying to get help. Let’s be a bit more civil and polite.

If Lost Genius makes steps to be in touch ( and meet with ) the local
Division of Vocational Services, and to seek employment with a small
company, instead of being self employed, more power to him.
If he fails to keep the meetings and his scheduled appointments, then
that is a different story. Let’s see what happens.

I side with “hang in there”. For all people life has its ups and downs. I know that your learning disabilities complicate things, but don’t give up hope. Use this time of unemployment to explore options - yes, even signing up as disabled and collecting a check. What’s involved? Do you even qualify? Would it be enough to live on? Then explore other avenues, be bold, walk through some new doors. What’s the worst that can happen? You meet new people, try new things, discover talents and use ones you dismissed. Get dressed and out of the house every day. Go to the library, explore your town. Figure out strategies, try things, see what works.

Amen. And also, keep that appointment with Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and Job Training Partnership Act. Also, has anyone
considered Temporary Services ( Kelly, Olsten, Western, etc… ) ??
