Great new BB!

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I think it’s great that a bulletin board has been created just for adults with LD. I myself have nonverbal LD, and I know it’ll help to have this forum to use.

Hi,

I too think this is a great idea. Funny, I also am NLD (I didn’t think there were that many of us).

Well it makes sense that NVLD would be more likely to be on the web than a “V” LD, since it involves so many WORDS!

LD ADH ADDHD ODD PTSD NLD VLD are labled created for people by S.O.B.s Who gain financially by them. Don’t let some ignoramous put a lable on you. Their dogma is dangerous and is not based in hard science. Miss Cleo is more valid than they are. Ask yourself this question: Who do I know who has been helped by thes charletons?

Dear ball,

I can understand your anger, but I’m not exactly sure why you hold such strong opinons since you haven’t stated why, for instance… do you have any diagnosed LD, ADHD or other disability? I’ve read quite a few of your posts on this board and I can relate with your frustration and anger but I also see that i’ts not very productive because it only further separates you from others, socially, as well as in other aspects of your life. If you have been burned by professionals before then join the club - the story of my life. If you are willing to take the chance to get to know us, on this board, then I think we could be a good source of hope and help for you to help yourself and seek help as well.

I hope that you do not continue to give up over and over again because you can change yourself and how others relate to you as well. Be an advocate for yourself which will end up helping others and then others will begin to help you as well.

All the best,
Maria

Can someone explain what the different is between non-verbal and verbal LD.

Does this have something to do with a way a person learns?

Thank you,
Holly Meyers

Hi AA,
Thank you for the information about NLD. The websites were a big help in explaining things.

Again thank you for this new area of Ld online. You have trully set it up so that we as Ld Adults will have an easier time of following all the files. Please consider regrouping you other boards in this area as well.

I would like to recommend another book that I highly recommend titled
” Accommodations In High Education Under The Americans With Disability Act” edited by Michael gordon and shelby Kesier and on page 150 there is an excellent definition of Non Verbal Learning Disbabilties which I will copy and or phrase and it says the following about ” Non Verbal Learning Disability”- “Individuals with a Non Verbal Learning Disability ususally acquire word identification skills very early and show advanced spelling and decoding skills. abilities because auditory perception and and memory capabilties are well developed. Difficulty with high level inferential thinking. Concept formation analysis and synthesis of informationand strayeghy generation are generally deficits as well asaspects of linguistic performance such as appropriate prosody and fuctional language. Deficits on psychomotor coordination, problem solving and concept formation. Verbal IQ higher than Performance IQ.”

Also any one that wants to read and outstanding article on Non Verbal Leanring Disabilities should go to the following web site
http://cie.ed.asu.edu/fall98/roman/roman.html. Perhaps whomever started this can area can download this artilce and start a file in the LD Adult area on Non Verbal Learnign Disability. Just like others have mentioned that is what i have a non verbal learnign disability. Thank You Again
