I am a 32 Y/O Black Male working in the Navy, Stationed in Norfolk Virginia. I’m looking for someone that has information on testing for LD in the area. Allso anyone who might have info on dealing with LD. It has taken me 32 years to find a answer about why I have had trouble with learning. Know I wan’t to what I can do about it.

Thank you. I have been putting this off for a long time. I wen’t to my medical department and of course it was a very uncomfortable. At first they tried to talk me out of finding the information and question why am I concerned now? They also siad they never had any positive results with anyone else they sent for testing and I could be asked to change jobs if I had a negative score.
But I siad I want to be tested anyway.

Ask the Navy to test you. I have had students who are dependents and they have done a nice, complete job at the Navy Hospital in Portsmouth. They can also test for central auditory processing disorders. There is also an educational advocate program staffed by volunteers. I’m not exactly sure how to reach them, but they have come to meetings we have had about dependent students. Read a lot to learn more, but read critically. There are lots of “answers” out there that are not always based on facts.
