Hello i’m a 54 yr old black female I’m not sure if I have LD/ADHD I heard that it can run in families. I have two family members that have been tested having ADHD I’m the Aunt of them so is it possible that this could have pass over a generation ? I’m having a hard time taking in information at work I get very nervous and it takes me a few times to work it out in my mind and ashame to ask more then once because people will say hurtful things. I’m really concern because I just started a new job and I’m struggling with simple things I try to read self help books but I can’t stick with it could I have a LD?

Hi May and Welcome here,
I think that you might have answered your own question? In your sentence:
‘I’m having a hard time taking in information at work I get very nervous and it takes me a few times to work it out in my mind and ashamed to ask more then once because people will say hurtful things.’

When we get nervous or anxious about something that we are trying to do or learn?
Then those nervous/ anxious thoughts, take up so much attention, that it leaves little attention to what we are actually trying to do/ learn.
It’s a bit like trying to listen to 2 people talking at the same time?
So what would really help, is to ignore the voice that tries to interrupt with nervous thoughts.

Also feeling ashamed to ask more than once, just adds another layer of nervous thoughts?

Where it’s important to remember, that most of the time, we learn through repetition.
As it takes 2 or 3 times, before it really sinks in!
So get into a habit, of asking them to repeat it.

So rather than ‘struggling’ with simple things, just try to be more relaxed about it?
