Probation of work

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I am currently on probation and because I have a learning disability I find sometimes I cannot perform the job or tasks to the best of my ability. Unfortunately, I have been sick for the past week so I am unable to find out how I am going. I do not know exactly what I can do in this predicament.
Organisation is the key, but, I find sometimes I am in ” mess of my own making”.

Thank you for your time.

Tania,

I wish I could offer some sort of answer but unfortunatley I can’t. I had something said to human resources by an individual at my place of employment, regarding there being issues with my interpersonal communication skills problems, but nothing was said to me and I was given a satisfactory performance apprasial. Since something was said, I have had to use a substanial amount of leave to undergo new neuropsychological testing which may result in job coaching being recommended which is described as working with you at your job site , learning your job and offering strategies which may not be appropriate since I work with highly skilled scientists / technical / administrative and my job is quite obscure.

I wish I could offer more help.

There could be some protection under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Consult a lawyer because you have to identify yourself as a person with a disability to be protected and HR doesn’t always know the legal way to deal with it. The protection, if you qualify, gives you the right to ask for accommodations such as an organization coach.
