Dear, Shannon

I am a senior LD student at The Ohio State University. I am not sure if
I can help you, but I can try. I would say, that you probably may want to get
to really know your students. Perhaps you can have them talk about what kind
of LD that they suffer from. Making them comfortable with you and others in
the classroom is a plus, you will have to get closer to them than what you
usually do in the regular classroom. Often people with LD are scared of failure,
and often don’t have someone in the college atmosphere, that they can go to.
If you allow this then you will get great results.

As far as a format, Im not really sure since I study criminal Psych, weither
or not Job Counseling means the learning of how to counsel others, or helping
them choose a career. If you can specifie this then perhaps I can give you some
ideas. I hope that I can help you, I am not the greatest because I do not know
much about teaching. But I guess something is better than nothing.

Hope to hear from you. Brian

I teach LD and EBD students at the high school level. Brian gave you some good pointers. I also have LD/ADHD, but have two masters degrees. The LD diagnosis has a huge scope, as well as IQ scores….
At about what levels of ability are these students? Weaknessess? Strengths?
let me know…

Dear Georgia,

I am a college student in Canada. I found out a year ago that I have a LD after struggling for a life time, with shame, denial and not understanding why I was different than other students. In class, I still suffer from shame. I have disclosed to the college and teachers, but I feel so isolated.

When I read that you have two masters degrees, my heart stopped. I love learnig, and school- even though it is so hard for me. I desire to continue my education, but lack role models. Is it possible for me to continue in higher education with a LD?

I am slowing coming out of denial about my LD. Shame is holding me back.

Claire.
