Residential Programs are not bad at all

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hello and Happy New Year almost
My name is Shell and I live within a residential program
I have been in my program since 1989 I have some wonderful experiences here
The program has helped me with alot of issues and support I feel the program
I am in has done some great things and also not so great things for me.I am now
living on my own have a good job not my dream job but it meets my financial needs and I
also have friends, These things I did not have while I was living at home I also have alot of
support with others who also had learning disabilities before I moved in the residence I felt so
alone no friends job activities and most of all no independence but now I feel wonderful I still have
my emmotional issue but I have supports I can talk to whether on the job or at home there is some
one always there to listen and to lend a helping hand or give me advice of what I should do
So I just wanted to say that residential programs are very helpful
If you have someone thats in a residence or going into a residence don’t pish posh it
give them support and friendship
Feel free to e mail me any time for any thing even just to chat

see ya all later

Hi Michelle,

I am veru happy for you that you found a good place to live where you can have friends and support. Can you write me which program is it? I might
be interested for myself. I saw somr programs. At this point i have not
fopnd one that I feel comfortable to live in. I am still in college but it might
be relevant for me next year. What are you working in? How is the levels
of the other resients. Are they all learning diables?
