School Assistance - Canadians

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi there!

I am a twenty-four (25 in fall) hoping to go back to school this upcoming September for Registered Massage Therapy.

I have just been recently diagnosed with ADHD (within the last two weeks), and have not yet looked at any treatment options. I have to go over my report with my family physician - he is not yet aware of any of this.

Anyway, I am wondering if anyone can help me in where to go to research finanical assistance for those with ADHD for schooling. I am planning on applying for student loans, but any other financial assistance that may be available to me would be greatly helpful - this course is VERY expensive. I’ve already blown 8 grand getting a diploma in Computer Programming, but that was very boring. One thing - I live in Canada - so many of the funding options I’ve found online seem to apply to the US.

Any tips/ideas/knowledge?

Thanks,
Angela

Rehabilitation scholarships
college education paid for by the state, through the department of workforce development. With the helpf of a rehabilitaion counslour. U have to maintain something like a 2.0 to keep getting money, and such. The whole point is to get disabled people a good job when they graduate.
this is in the u.s.a. i dont know about canada. but it might help to see if they have scholarships for disabilitys. take care, shannon

Financial assistance based on disability depends upon the province in which you live. In Ontario, OSAP does have a bursary for students with disabilities, but this is not for tuition. You must first qualify for OSAP, then it is possible for you to receive funding for equipment or tutors, if deemed necessary.

You should ask your school if they have an office for students with disabilities. This is where you should be able to find answers for all of your questions. All colleges and universities in Ontario have one. If not, I would suggest contacting your MPP. They can also be good sources of information.
