Is there hope for me?

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi all,
I will be 45 years old this August. After a life of trying to figure out WHAT I can do with my life, I finally found my niche.

But I can’t keep the jobs I find. Now I am at home looking for a new job. I lost 3 jobs in two and a half years because of my speed. I never get the jobs done!

I do web design.

I can’t go on like this. When I read about LDs, my LD seems not so severe! I do believe I am a very intelligent person! I can really read the handwriting on the wall. I have a sixth sense. I can tell WHEN I ABOUT TO LOSE A JOB! No kidding! I can see it coming ever time! I should use this SIXTH SENSE towards my advantage.

Which brings up another question. Maybe my job failure is a self fulfilling prophecy!!! I don’t know for certain, bit it really is odd! I would hate to think I would do that to myself, but I come from a lifetime of verbal abuse and being told I was slow and stupid!

I just don’t know.

Nice to meet you all.

I rememebr reading somewheres that if you’re worried about losing your job you are 45% more likely to lose it. Factor that in with having an LD the statistics probably increase.

I’ve truly never had a job that I really enjoyed, I work retail right now and it’s blantantly evident that I hate my job, so if I were to lose it it wouldn’t matter to me (well until the bills came rolling in).

here are some resources that have helped me, maybe they will do the same for you.

“What Color is Your Parachute” by Richard N. Bolles - Ummm it’s the most popular job - hunting book in the world (supposevly) and it gives you an idea into how to conduct yourself during an interview, and provides you with insight into what employers are thinking during a job interview.

“Learning A Living” by Dale S. Brown - Ms Brown actually has Ld and has done quite a bit to educate the public about LD, if I remember correctly she was denied a job way back when because she disclosed her LD during the job interview, so she decided to do something about it, and as a result has written several books.
