Vocational Outlook for LD Adults

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi. This is Joe, in northern NJ.
I find it just a struggle to keep my job at a University (an office job).
I work for 14 professors ( 8 fulltime, 6 adjunct) and a secretary.
They have different personalities, and demands.
I make sure I have “reasonable accomodation”; and that
verbal instructions are reinforced by written note or datum
(e.g.: post-it note with number of copies to do; Professor requested ) .

I have a psychotherapy session every 2 weeks. My therapist
( man with MSW degree ) is “clued in” . My life is tough.

My job is only part-time ( 20 hrs. week ) and I also get SSDI.

Having a “Remnant LD” , and it’s history makes life a bit tougher.
It’s a **HARD STRUGGLE** to be independent, but I am.

Best regards,

Joe
