Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I was in s.l.d. from 4 th grade to 12th. now i want to go to college after almost 20 yrs. out of high school. Iam pretty much successful, but i took the hard road of trying to go around mostly ever thing. but i got most of what i want .I do have a hard time in school, i have to study 10 time more then every one else, that gets old. There is one thing i have walked all the way around, and it did not turn out the way i planned. so I have to go to college and take math and comp. my worst subjects in the entire world. Question: that is what i was in sld for my entire school years, now i wan tto go back and complete this requirement. but was courious if they have any programs where i can learn at my own pace.

At Mohawk Valley Community College the have a students with disabilities office but it is worthless. You will be on your own. My instructors have been helpful and understanding but if I had gone through channels I’d have gotten screwed. Give it a try otherwise you’ll never know. The fact remains, nobody gives a crap about us.

Hey, The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has a really good LD program. I was there for 2 years and spent alot of time in the LD offices. The program is called CAP. Here is a link to their page. http://www.utc.edu/~utccap/

In order to got college you need to have either passed the GED or have regular general academic dimploma. If you have that then first make sure you have current academic evaluation that talks about your disability and the accommadations that help make college a success for you. Then get a copy of the bookss that are out their as guides to colleges for students with LD such as Peterson’s Guide to colleges with Disabilities or PG Guide to colleges for students with Learning Disabilties or go to either Barnes and Nobles. Com or Amazon. Com and type in College guides For Students With Ld and purchase one of those guides and then they will tell you how to apply to the 2 or 4 year college or Univeristy of your choice.
