WHAT TO DO

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hello, my name is Warren Fried I have had learning disabilities since I have been five years of age. Schooling has allways been difficult for me as long as making good friends as I seem to push people away due to my differences. When I was a teenager I was put on paxil for anxiety/ depression/ and panic attacks. Throughout high school I had great problems with schooling due to my LD I couldnt get pass basic math and had great problems socializing as driving a car is difficult for someone who has fine motor, visual motor, spatial awareness and depth perception problems. When I was finishing my high school career I took the sat’s scoring a poor 850 but was able to due well in my LD classes and get into college. Whilst at my first college I earned good grades but had great problems socializing due to my LD and my anxiety and depression during this time frame I became greatly annorexic which affected me for 2 years. I stayed at this university for a year and then transfered to the UK were I studied my arse off to prove to me that I could do it, but I was wrong having to leave a 3 year based degree programme after a year and a half due to the fact I had problems writting essays due to my structuring of essays. In England I finally made good friends but used pints as a way of socialzing as my anxiety got worse. I loved the fact that in England unlike many usa states or cities I could get around as I cant drive due to my differences. After leaving England very dejected due to not earning a degree I went to study out west were I had a complete nervouss breakdown getting into very bad situations and gettting feed up with studies. I then went back to the UK were I tried to pursuee some type of career but I had problems getting sponsered as I had limited university qualifications due to my LD. I am now currently on good meds to get better but am wondering what should be the next step I should pursuee. I would love to be able to get around but in the States that presents great difficulty as I dont know any places except for high priced cities that have public transport. I would also love to work for an organization that works with people with LD. Any information you lot could provide me would be greatly appreciated, sincerly, Warren Fried.

Hi Warren,

Are you in the UK or the US now? In the UK you should be able to find good work with the help of the Learning Disabilities Team at your Council, and the Disability Employment Advisor at the Job Centre.

Best,
Annie
