What if's

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hello my name is lea and I am 29 going on 30. I go to a college that specializes in graphic arts. I have been going for two years now. Its the type of college that you get your degree in three years. Well, Im probebly going to get mine in four, if im lucky. I have to take the quarters slow so I am not all confused. Anyway, sometimes I wonder if I am going in the right profession. I am so scared that what if I am just not cut out to do anything, or what if I get a job and I dont understand. Oh and when I tell these people who work here at my school that I have a learning disability they seem to not know what to do. Does anyone ever feel like this, you know the what if’s?

Everybody gets the what ifs… the best thing to do with them is to channel them into making sure you do everything as well as you can. Speed doesn’t matter - some kind of quality does. What are your strengths? Your creativity? Your reliability? Find them and develop them (and work on the weaker ends). They can be specific graphic arts skills, or more general every-job-needs-‘em things like thoroughness… or adaptability (most people can do one a lot better than the other :-))
Careers aren’t straight paths - think big picture. I know I didn’t end up doing much at all that directly related to my Wildlife and Fisheries degree… but I picked up skills and knowledge along the way that lend themselves to job skills that work.
