I live in NYC. My aunt has been working for them since 1999. First, she worked for them as a nurse (RN) and now as a nurse practitioner (NP) (she kept on continuing her education while working as a nurse).

As you probably know, it’s a private, non-profit organization for mentally retarded people of all severities: from profound to borderline. They have group homes, assisted living, clinics,day-treatment programs, etc. And they have it all around the NYC (and probably like Westchester too). When my aunt worked as a nurse, she worked in three Bronx group homes (a profound one twice a week and once a week in each of the moderate ones). (I’ve actually visited this profound group home a few times because that was when I took a leave from college for medical reasons and she took me there just so that I would have some outing/external activity rather than stay at home and do nothing). Now, she works in a moderate group home in Manhattan several days a week and in a clinic as a nurse practitioner a few times a week.

That’s basically all I know and it’s all through my aunt. She really respects this organization and its governing board (CEO, etc). She had tensions with colleagues at her job, but that’s different. As for the institution, she believes it’s well conceived and run.
