I am a tenth grade student at Walt Whitman High School on Long Island where I am taking a science research class. I have been studying dyslexia for many years and am now starting a research project on the possible relationship of multiple early childhood inner ear infections and dyslexia. In order to carry out my experiment, I need to survey a large number of dyslexic individuals.

I have a 15yr daughter that has had many, many eat infections as a child (till age 6 when she had tonsilectomy/adenoidectomy) and is ADD/Dyslexic…I can answer your questions…

Two reactions to your posting:
First, please, please clearly define what you mean by dyslexia. The term is often used for a reading disability, when in fact, it is a specific area of difficulty resulting from transposition of letters, reversals, etc. and only truly appears in about 5% of the LD population.
Secondly, you will probably summize, if you haven’t already, that early ear infections effect the development of language during that receptive language stage, or”window” that some researchers pinpoint. This would then manifest itself in a Language based learning disability or perceptual difficlties later on in life. Please do you research on these topics before you select “subjects” for your survey. YOur results could be very skewed!
